Alex Ovechkin Passes Wayne Gretzky For Most NHL Road Goals

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in the first period of Tuesday night's 5-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks, setting another NHL record along the way.

Ovechkin's tallies were the 402nd and 403rd on the road in his 18-year career, passing Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky for the most on visiting ice in NHL history.

Coach Lindy Ruff Records 800th NHL Victory

Jack Hughes scored his first career NHL hat trick and the Devils defeated the Capitals 5-1 at Prudential Center on Saturday for coach Lindy Ruff's 800th victory.

"It's exciting because I've had [three] two-goal games in my career, so it's nice to cap it off with the third one tonight," Hughes said. 

Ruff, 62, is 800-634-141 with 78 ties in 1,653 games since initially taking over as coach of the Sabres in 1997. He became just the fifth coach in NHL history to reach the milestone alongside Scotty Bowman (1,244; 1967-2002), Joel Quenneville (969; '96-'22), Barry Trotz (914; '98-'22) and Ken Hitchcock (849; '95-'19).

Patrice Bergeron Gets 1,000th NHL Point

Patrice Bergeron got his 1,000th career point with a second-period assist and the Boston Bruins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 on Monday night for their seventh straight win.

Bergeron became the fourth Boston player and 94th in NHL history to reach the milestone with the second assist on Brad Marchand's goal at 15:08 that gave the Bruins a 4-1 lead.

Evgeni Malkin Plays In 1,000th NHL Game

Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin played in his 1,000th NHL game on Sunday night at Chicago, becoming the 11th player to reach the milestone with the Penguins.

Malkin made his debut with Pittsburgh on Oct. 18, 2006, scoring in the second period of a 2-1 loss to New Jersey. The center helped the Penguins to Stanley Cup titles in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

Marian Hossa Wants More Active Role With Blackhawks

Marian Hossa isn't exactly sure how he will feel when the Chicago Blackhawks retire his No. 81 jersey.

The Hockey Hall of Famer is certain he is going to watch some more numbers from his championship teams in Chicago go up to the United Center rafters some day.

"There's so many names [that] deserve it to be up there," Hossa said Wednesday night. "It's not up to me, but I know I will be coming back for some others in the future."

Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Canucks teammate Roberto Luongo, former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, Finnish women's national team player Riikka Sallinen and Herb Carnegie were welcomed into the Hockey Hall of Fame as the class of 2022 on Monday.

The Sedin twins and Luongo were elected in their first years of eligibility back in June, while Alfredsson had waited since 2017.

Borje Salming was "The King" when he played for Toronto. On Saturday night, the Maple Leafs gave Salming a royal -- and overwhelmingly emotional -- welcome home.

The 71-year-old Salming -- who spent 16 of his 17 NHL seasons patrolling Toronto's blue line -- was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in July and has faced a rapid decline to his health.

Alex Ovechkin set the NHL record for most goals scored with one franchise, netting his 787th career goal with the Washington Capitals to break a tie with Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe's career total with the Detroit Red Wings.

The record-breaking goal came on home ice in a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes Saturday night.

Alex Ovechkin tied Gordie Howe for the most goals scored for one NHL team, fittingly reaching the milestone in the same city Mr. Hockey became an all-time great.

The 37-year-old superstar scored in second period, giving him 786 goals with Washington, but Andrew Copp had a go-ahead goal with 3:50 left to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 on Thursday night.

"It's pretty cool," Ovechkin said. "It's a great accomplishment."
